||Singaround - Plough Monday
- The big guy from the Wilson family released his second
solo CD in 2018, bringing a great voice and superb, natural timing
to a great selection of folk songs, old and new. Bound to be a great
start to our 2019 guest programme.
Russell & Chris Parkinson - First time here as a
duo for two old favourites. Ali is a Stockton "old-boy"
who moved on from The Distillers to 13 years with the legendary Battlefield
Band. "Parky" is a renowned squeezebox player whose list
of collaborations reads like a who's who of folk music. Expect a lively
mix of Scottish and Irish songs and music performed in great style.
Tan Tether - Welome back to a close harmony trio who
have been dubbed "the golden tonsils of Otley" by
Mike Harding. Tess, Lynne and Rosie play a variety of instruments
but concentrate mainly on beautiful a capella arrangements
of a fine mix of songs.
Welch & Stewart Hardy - George is a North East institution
known for hilarious stories, driving tunes on guitar and moving songs
in a fine baritone voice. Stewart is a fiddle player (and teacher)
with an international reputation for rhythmic virtuosity and sensitive
accompaniments. They promise a night of spontaneous fun.
Wyndham Read - An old favourite, Martyn is a warm,
mesmerising singer who complements a superb voice with excellent,
unobtusive guitar. He is well known as an ambassador for Australian
folk songs but is also a champion for Graeme Miles compositions.
from Oberlin Ohio, describes herself as a song-finder not
a song-writer. She brings a powerful voice to a huge repertoire of
(mostly) American songs and ballads. Her command of narrative style
and deep respect for traditions have earned respect on both sides
of the Atlantic.
