||New Year's Day - Club closed
- A first visit for a top performer from the world of maritime
music. Tom puts across traditional shanties and songs fashioned from
his own seafaring background in powerful vocal style. Add ukelele
and button accordion together with infectious good humour and you
have a recipe for a great night.
Causley - Another first visit, this time from one of
the younger generation. Jim is steeped in the traditions of Devon.
He honed his musical skills as one of the early graduates of the Newcastle
Folk Degree and in groups like Devil's Interval, becoming recognised
as one of the finest male folk singers (so far) of the 21st century.
Indeed, he has been nominated 6 times for BBC Radio 2 folk awards
over the years. More recently he has established a strong reputation
as a song writer in the folk idiom, including settings of poems distant
relative Charles Causley.
McConville - His live performances combine a rollercoaster
of musical delights from fast, rhythmic dance tunes , through beautiful
slow airs and of course, great singing - all presented with his inimitable
sense of humour and style. Tom will give us a great night of quality
Heraud & Pat Turner always give us a hugely entertaining
evening with their combination of humour and song -- "everything
from high tragedy to ingenious smut in glorious vocal harmony!"
They also, between them, play guitar, recorder, English concertina
and a variety of whistles (including Swanee, policeman's and referee's)
and are not in the least averse to dressing up or dancing when a song
Shepheard & Arthur Watson have a wealth of songs
gleaned directly from traditional singers they have known. Originally
from Gloucestershire, Pete has lived for many years in Fife: he is
a noted song-collector and plays melodeon. Arthur is originally from
Aberdeen and now lives in Perth: he plays whistles large and small.
Their shared enthusiasm for their songs illuminates their performances.
Attic - If you haven't heard this exciting young trio
it's time you did. Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne (melodeon,concertina,
vocals); George Sansome (guitar, vocals) and Lewis Wood (fiddle,
mandolin, vocals) are exceptional musicians who draw on English,
Irish and Scottish traditions as well as their own compositions.
Short-listed for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 2014, they
perform with great energy and a great sense of fun.
& Luc McNally - Iona, from Aberdeenshire, delighted
us in 2016 with her stunning voice and sensitive keyboard arrangements,
coupled with great traditional Scottish songs and ballads. She's accompanied
by County Durham guitarist and singer Luc, making a terrific duo.
||Singaround - St George's Day -why not celebrate in The George
& Lynette Eldon - Jim is a traditional singer and
fiddle player who has been collecting and performing songs and tunes,
mainly from the Hull and the East Riding area, for many years. He
remains true to how his material was sung or played by earlier generations
giving a truly authentic feel to his sets. Lynne is a champion clog
dancer whose family are among the sources of this Yorkshire treasure

Robson & Moira Craig - Previously two thirds of Craig
Morgan Robson, following the sad loss of Sarah Morgan Carolyn and
Moira have kept the music and the harmonies alive, concentrating on
their native songs of Northumberland and Scotland. Two lovely voices
and a great selection of songs.
& Barbara Snape provide a feel-good mix of songs
from ballads to comic ditties, all with a Lancastrian flavour and
a joyful blend of voice and melodeon. "Peter has a sensitive
ear for song accompaniment and with Barbara's gift for interpreting
a song's true meaning they create music that compels you to listen
and take part" [Folk North West]
